CASTIEL

Castiel

Castiel is either the Angel of Thursday (Confused? Me too), or a band from Kent. I hope they don’t mind too much, but I’m writing about the band on a Tuesday.

If ever you need to listen to some music of the most cataclysmic variety (and who doesn’t from time to time), Castiel may well be the band for you. Their latest EP, “Off the Coloured Wall” has it all: cosmic battles between heaven and hell, perpetual torment between love and hate, peace and war, and unsightly creatures consuming souls.

It’s less of a song, more like one of those very, very thick fantasy fiction novels featuring impossible to pronounce character names and unfeasibly dressed female warriors on the front cover – all compressed into just over four minutes of musical madness.

As could only befit such apocalyptic themes – all tormented heroes and delusional sinners – the lyrics are supported by an intense sound of chugging bass lines, thudding drums and searing guitars. Hey. There’s even a bit of rap in there to top things off. And over the top of it all, James Delin’s vocals soar like the angel of death he probably isn’t.

This is a big, big all devouring rock song that takes no prisoners.

Definitely one for the mosh pit.
